Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present a new theory of justice for a multicultural, liberal and democratic society – the ethic of self-creation – and explore what implications it has for the question of group rights and education. The basic principle of the theory is that a just society is one where everybody has an equal opportunity to engage in active subjectivation. For this to be realized, culture-based and/or faith schools should be allowed and encouraged for younger pupils but not higher up in the education system.
