Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the core motivations for refugees to become entrepreneurs, and the role of embeddedness in the host country's social environment. The indicative results show that the challenges a refugee meets when placed in a host country is lack of local social capital, language skills, knowledge about the cultural, legal and financial issues, liability of foreignness or alienation. Further, refugees are not prepared before arriving to the host country, however, education could speed up the process of integration and provide a more successful start for entrepreneurship.
